Thinking about a wii...good games and accessories?

My OH and I have been toying with the idea of getting a Wii for awhile, and now we have a decent size TV (Panny TXP42G10 42" plasma...luverly) I'm thinking nows a good time to buy. So I've started having a look at bundles out there.

I've got no idea what I want though really, so if theres some Wii owners I'm hoping you can point me in the direction of a) accessories worth getting, like wii fit etc and b) a few decent games.

More games for her than me - apart from Portal (which we both loved) she only plays DS games - Mario Kart, Sonic Olympics etc. I prefer more explosions personally, so was wondering what games would be worth getting that tick both those boxes?

I really love Resident Evil 4 on the Wii. The controls make it superb. The same goes for COD WAW which I like on the Wii - not played on the PS3 though so don't know which is better, BUT I do like the Wii control system for aiming etc...

AS for accessories, we just have another controller with the nunchuck..

Wii Sports is a fun game, with Tennis etc...

As above, Resident Evil is great. Blazing Angels is also good fun but a bit hard. To be honest, the most fun we have with it is Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Wii Play. Basically the simple stuff that is all about gameplay and not graphics.

Cheers for that. Anything else that the missus will enjoy as well, stuff we can play together? Resident Evil is definately on the cards, but somehow I think that'll get played when she's out of the house.

ETA:

What should I be looking for in the way of controllers? I don't know what the basic wii comes with, so should I be looking to get a second remote and nunchuck as well? Or is the nunchuck not important?

mario and sonic olympics was alot of fun

multiple controllers i think is essential as the wii really is about multiple people playing rather than on ur own

avoid the wii fit - its a white elephant really -

mario kart is good too

and make full use of the free online play

Tiger Woods is pretty good if you are into golf at all, even if your not its so easy to pick up and play, my brother and law all ways have a round of 18 when ever we visit them.

Cheers. Can someone tell me what should be considered essential for two people (in terms of controllers) - do I just need the remotes, or do I need the nunchucks as well? And is the wii motion plus worth having?

the motion plus will eventaully be standard to all games - tahts the way nintendo want to push it so they can bring a new remote out that has the motion plus built in.

at the moment its not essential as only 3-4 games utilise it - wii sports resort, tiger woods, grand slam and one two more

i'd get the nunchuck aswell as it gives both arms a good workout!

alot a nw games in the next few mont are motion compatible, virtual tennis 09 is, its a really good game best tennis one out there

Get 2 controllers and 2 nunchucks. IF your mates have a wii and you want a games night just get them to bring their own controllers.

I enjoyed playing Bully on wii but I have found that the best games are the ones actually made for wii and not games adapted for wii that are out on other consoles.

Dont bother with wii fit, everyone I know that bought have about 1 or 2 hours of 'exercise' recorded on them but then they lost interest. I borrowed wii fit from a friend when they gave up on it and between 2 of us built up a whopping 20 minutes on it before getting bored.

Well my OH uses Wii Fit almost every day...

If you and your OH are interested in fitness and at all competetive then Wii Fit could well work for you. Beating your OH's top score whilst toning muscles/getting the heart pumping is actually quite addictive.

Six minutes of hula hooping to show the missus who's boss only to find she's laughing her ass off at you behind you back whilst you make yourself look like a spastic will leave you both breathless.

I would definitely have to recommend getting a shooter such as House of the Dead, that's where the Wii comes into it's own.

Oh and also, Nice choice of TV we have the same one, unfortunately it only serves to show of the Wii's gloriously shabby graphics capabilities to their full potential... and our Wii wont seem to connect to the internet for us.

Other than that... It's great fun. Though the Xbox sees more "solo" play...

I've ordered it now - Wii with remote & nunchuck, second remote and nunchuck, wii sports and mario and sonic at the olympics. I'm doing a bit of shopping now, I may pick up resident evil, wii sports resort and motion plus towards the end of the month.

bah could have sold you mine, light use, 2 controllers with nunchucks, 5-6 games probly best family fun are sports that came with it, house of the dead and wario ware smooth moves, also got metroid and zelda, wii play (tanks is fun) and the HDTV cable.

problem is after 2 weeks of fun and the odd time mates come round it sits on a shelf.

I think your OH should check out Rayman Rabbids the 1st one is easily the best. The wii fit I think is a bit pointless. We bought one and used it for about a week, now it just sits there gathering dust.

Its more been bought for the missus than me in all honesty, I've got a PC for decent gaming. This is more for her - she likes simple games, and I reckon I'll get a bit of mileage out of some of the better wii games (but L4D and TF2 will still be waiting for me when I get bored.)

You might find you want a component cable which is sold separately. I found the standard cable it comes with gave really bad picture quality when I bought a new TV, that I hadn't noticed so much with the old CRT TV!

same here, I have kids of 3, 5, 8 and 13...a wife and me...and two dogs - we were all bored stupid within a couple of weeks. If I told my eldest son (8) that he could give up gears of War, call of duty four and guitar hero and we could sell the Xbox 360 and PS3 and get a new WII.....he'd leave home!
