Whats normal oil pressure at idle speed?
Discussion
Can anyone confirm what the "normal" oil pressure is on their cars after its warmed up?
At idle speed mine sits at about 12-15psi ... is this too low?
On cold startup mine its around 60psi and gradually drops as the engine warms up.
I've got a Cerb Speed Six but imagine things should be the same as the Tuscan setup.

Just using standard recommended Carlube stuff.
My car has always had an idle speed / warm oil pressure of around 10psi (have owned for last 3 years). Thought this was normal but I've just tried out a new local specialist who is concerned at this figure. - Could explain the 4 engine rebuilds if this wasn't right !!
This is worrying as you'd have thought TVR Factory (who put my car back together recently) would have noticed this low figure and done something about it if it was too low..... or the local TVR dealer who I took the car back to about 10 times complaining about low oil pressure...ho hum, maybe it isn't a problem??
Cheers
NB: Maybe worth while changing this oil pressure relief spring then to see if that helps then?

Just got back from a 200 mile trip. Oil pressure at 3300rpm with temps at 85/65 water/oil is about 49-52 (moves around a bit). Idle at the same temperatures is 25/26. On heating up to 94/90 whilst standing in traffic for a bit, the pressure dropped to 21/23 with Mobil 1 0/40 (topped up with 5/50). [edit] Revs 800 ish [/edit]
Seems like there might be an idle issue ?
I doubt if the pressure relief value would be a problem - does that not only open at a fixed pressure about 60psi ?
Might be worth asking the factory if they checked the pressure last time they built the engine and what values they found.

Despite mine being an Apr 2000W reg its just changed to grown up oil having now done 5000m it had about 30psi at idle before and has now dropped to 18-25 at idle on mobil 5-40 ( I think, must ask Peninsula) I use that to top it up and its used eough to think it must be pure by now. Oddly, it used bu66er all before but the adult oil disappears a bit. not all too surprising as there was a loose union on the bottom of the colllector tank which was waterproofing my garage floor for two months while I was away working. It uses zero now. I've locked the beast away for the winter. I know what you'll say...but work keeps me away from home most of the time so I can't drive it anyway so why waste dosh on tax. I'll be back home in June for 3 months then....
My RR engine at 800rpm hot idle is 23-25psi. 70psi on cold start.
If your idle speed is lower you will get a lower psi reading. Also in the hot summer period mine would read 16-19psi hot at 800rpm.
This is all on Mobil 1 oil. Remember there has been a lot of faulty oil pressures switches on the S6 engine.
Also I have not heard of problems with a oil pressure relief spring on the S6 engine, indeed can anyone confirm if there is one ?

Reading all the above, I am now a little worried too. My hot idle pressure reading is no more than 9 to 10 psi. It's approx. 55 psi on a cold start. Is this then something to worry about? I did have oil pressure reading problems when I bought it and after the oil pressure switch was replaced at the 1K mile service, I thought all was OK, especially as the oil pressure light stopped lighting up at over 4K rpm's! Is it worth me paying another visit to the dealer with the above hot idle pressure reading? I'm on Mobile One oil.

I also have 9-12 psi at idle (700 rpm)when the engine is hot. My car hasn't got the first service of 6000 miles yet, and then the oil will be replaced by 10W40.
This will increase the oil pressure.
I suppose your Tuscan (as it is a 2003 as well) hasn't got the 6000 miles service yet. So this is probably the reason for the lower pressure.
As long as your pressure is increasing quickly with the revs, I don't think there is problem at all.

I've just had my 6K mile service and now on Mobil One 0W40. The Hot (60C plus) idle is still 9 to 12psi at 800 rpm's, which it was with the Mobil Super 15W40 previously. From the last two comments I am not now going to worry. The pressure does rise rapidly with revs. I'l mention it to the dealer when I'm in next.
Any particular reason why You have used castrol RS10W60 Nick, as the manual recommends the Mobil One? I'm no expert with TVR's, simply would like to know for the future. Cheers.

Mobil 1 0W40 was only recomeded in the handbook as Mobil were sponsoring the Tuscan challange at the time. When mine was changed to this at 6K miles oil consumption went quiet high & was also difficult to get reliable oil level reading due to the oil draining away very quickly. At the next service TMS changed this for the Castrol RS10W60 (approved by TVR)& oil consumption and drainage when checking the oil level were much improved along with the oil pressure.
