Interesting thread.
My favourite bit:
Craig -
"my car is now with a great team of VdeV racing car guys that are making my car WORLD class, UK/EU compliant and have longevity and reliabilty..forget ultima its zonda that the car is going for.........heady statement???"
I guess he's realised it's never gonna be as good as an Ultima, so he's setting his sights a bit lower and going for the Zonda!!

I have a feeling there's more to this build than meets the Eye....
Just a foot note :- if you import a Turn Key New Car then would it not be fair to say that you would have to pay Tax like any other new car Built by a UK or other manufacturer (More than the normal 15%) ??? Ultima get around that by using the "low volume" exemption, but how do you prove that from a Manufacturer in the USA......
So maybe the car had to come over shall we say in bits, so that the assembly could be finished in the UK and there fore becoming a UK Built Kit Car ....

I have seen the SLC prototype and it is extremely impressive, well engineered car. The chassis looks very stiff. The only thing that I didn't like about it was the thickness of the bodywork, but surely this would favor durability. I look forward to more cars from RCR, I can only imagine what they could make if they began to use alloy extrusions and thinner alloy sheet for the chassis.
There will be several people that buy either of these cars that should have bought a Porsche and this sounds like the case in the above thread.

Have you seen the roads in Detroit? There will be several people that buy either of these cars that should have bought a Porsche and this sounds like the case in the above thread.
Durability is a MUST in these parts.
I had no idea this place was local. I am DEFINITELY going to have to check this out. I hope they have a car on Woodward for the Woodward Dream Cruise this weekend.

Good job Google has a caache isn't it
I really wish Craig no ill and truly hope he gets it sorted. But when you come on here saying how much better than an Ultima it will, then any FAIL is duly going to be noted!
So hope you get it sorted Craig

From the blog:-
After hanging around in detroit for a week a "car" finally left RCR and was loaded into the container
known issues were:
Engine running issues
Interior not fitted
all nuts and bolts loose
Aircon not working
lift kit not working
bodywork not fitted
catches not fitted
brake pipes all overlayed on each other
No handbrake assembly atall
gearshift not assembled and no gearshift cables
no door gas strut mechanism
no interior door handles
front splitter not attached -no hardware
wiring non completed - non functional
windscreen wiper arm/motor not working
wing mirrors not mounted
ride height not set
rear lights not configured
firetrap silencers non compliant
digidash non configured
no oil pressure sensor
Gearshift mechanism adding and cables
clutch not adjusted / bleed
Handbrake assembly required and cables
Interior door handles finishing - still needs rods hooking up and adjusting
Interior panels finishing and aligning - door panels not complete need doing so they don’t foul on cill, centre consol loose, rear high panel not on, gearshift close out left side missing part
Door gas struts completing - awaiting final design from RCR
Digidash wheel sensor and hooking up to speedometer
Front splitter completing and fixing - NOT DONE awaiting front fixing part from RCR
Bodywork catches need finishing -
remote rear fog light required hooking to Digidash
Rear wheel studs need swapping out - They were only sitting on 3 or 4 threads (too short) ouch!!!
toggle ignition key swapping out to 3 pin switch needs doing
Brake fluid sensor and sva tell tale switch (configured to digidash) needs adding
then needs hooking up to handbrake when completed
windscreen wiper arm not sent with car
Harness mounting points not done
Final paint Buffing and chip on door fixing - NOT DONE
No Key barrels for door locks just holes - check if locks will / can actually work
Roof vents -NOT DONE
Door weatherproof seals - NOT DONE
Aircon completed and fully working - NOT DONE
complete spanner check - not done
Uk provided alarm fitting not done
Washer bottle and jet fitting with push button switch - not done
Rough edges trimming diffuser / glass / door window frame edges not done
Roll pin brake bias bar - NOT DONE
Vin plate making and putting on -not done
Rear number plate light adding (wiring in place) not done
Locking fuel cap - not done
seat belt harness not attched as no lug eyes
Number plate bracket - not done
rear lexan paint peeling underneath and seperating
front light lexans not put on
front windscreen not put on properly / peeling away
Tether fuel cap not done
my 17digit chassis number not stamped
US front dip beam pattern dip headlights suspected uk required look at pattern – if not search for suitable UK dip beam
No front position side lights
windscreen wiper not working (whole system is dropping off runner) when under any pressure – needs mending
No seperators in rear indicators / showing red through next red lens - seperator needs putting into light cluster
brake bias not set
geometry not set
diffuser / wing out of shape
rear clam not set on hinge
bodywork and splitter held onto chassis via sticky tape
All under dash wiring needs holding back / non exposed / covering / clipping properly
dash panel hazard, horn and demister switches not blunted non SVA compatible
rear dodge dakota lights non E marked and not Uk legal
for some strange reason my black paint was painted over a yellow bodywork...strange!
i would describe it as a poorly put together kit...not a UK compliant turnkey car that i had expected.
But APART from these niggles - it will p**s ALL OVER an Ultima...but not yet.

I do hope you get it sorted Craig, but am interested to know what persuaded you to think a US company with effectively zero UK presence could agree to build you a UK SVA/IVA compliant car when they hadn't built even a US road legal one?
I was reviewing the blog again and I realised that it is a few months since the car went for it'sSVA test - (This was the blog entry just before it was taken for SVA) :-
23rd April 2009
After spending 10 days on the car it was obvious that the car needed a complete rebuild. To add to the build problems further issues were highlighted.
There wasn't enough scope in the suspension for the lift kit to be effective on a UK road 4" running to 6.5" on lift – longer shocks or extensions required was wrong shocks added
When fitting the interior the extra padding made it impossible for the doors to shut and only a midget could get in the seat to be able to drive.
There were major flaws in the wiring system / harness and would need adding into for UK compliancy and reliability in general
No speedmeter
gaps around firewall panel
no gearbox mounting system only hed on by 5 studs
Handbrake calliper / system would need developing to meet UK compliancy
Looked impossible to reduce silencing to UK SVA standards in the space available.
Rear lights were going to be an issue in general
when attaching the wing and diffuser there was serious wing wobble. (had to chuckle)
a descision was made to present the car to SVA the next day (final chance before system became IVA) to see if a fail could be still retried as SVA not IVA (whole new set of regs)
We worked through the night to get the car as best as possible to a non embarrassing state – look like we had failed……but kept going.
Was very apprehensive (and shattered) when leaving Speedwell to go to the SVA as non compliancy issues to me were more worrying than just poor build quality that could be redone or added…..we would see…..
Hopefully it is able to be tested again under SVA and I just wondered what stage it is at now, as a few months have gone by since then... does anyone know ?

proof of the pudding will be in the eating methinks
as I said before.
Car has been with a highly skilled, competent racecar builder for some time now. politics prevents me saying more I'm afraid but rest assured this will exceed all expectations when completed in the very near future.
