Hi,
I am thinking about buying a second hand Exige, I am desperate to get the right car. I think I may have found one I really like (yet to view in the flesh) but when I spoke to the guy who is selling it we discussed the service history:
It doesn't have a full service history, its first service at 9,000 was done by a commercial
garage ( I have no idea why).
Since I bought it in Jan 2008 I've only had it seen by the local Lotus dealer - JCT600 in Leeds.

Is this going to effect the resale value of the car.. also what is missing from the service? Should it have been serviced like the M3 at 1000 miles?

What’s your thoughts?

Thanks

Someone more knowledgable will be along in a bit but I am sure it should have had one by then. My elise is a year old with 7k on the clock and been serviced at least twice if not 3 off the top of my head.

If you are unsure then wait and find another example.

I always preach choose the type of car with your heart but buy with your head........

Hi there, if it is a S2 Toyota Exige then it should of indeed had a first service at 1,000 miles (Pretty much oil and filter change I think and ECU print out sent to Lotus). If not done your Warranty is void - so not sure if the car concerned is still under warranty??

Then every 9K or 12 months which ever is first. Secondly if it has had hard use then Lotus advise a 4.5K interim service (But this is only if you do couple track days etc or just fussy I guess)

Then every 2 years the brake & Coolent are advised to be changed in addition to the normal service routine. (from memory).

If you have any questions let me know, I have S2 111R (Same engine as N/A S2 Exige) owned for 2 years and now the servicing inside out, Also EVO did a guide on S2 Exige last year, I find out the issue for you)

Not having the 1000 mile service is seriously bad.

It is special running in oil and must be changed out along with the swarf and bits of metal that it will be full of after the initial running in. Just leaving it in for 9000 miles means the crap churns around scouring the engine and also the oil may not be designed to last 9000 miles....

Thanks guys – I appreciate your input, as such I won’t be going near the one without the run in service.

If any of you know of a tidy S2 Exige, in a lifestyle colour, ideally with a Stage 2 exhaust and Air con I would be interested to hear about it.

Once again thanks for the help

yes

running in service, yearly service and one after a track day if I remember correctly. One of the main reasons I bought the car smile

it's now a year and 5 months old so not as astounding as it seems smile
