Thinking of uprating my S1 by fitting the Bilstein spring/dampers from a standard k-engined S2. Pretty sure it's not just a simple direct replacement but has anyone done this and knows which other parts are needed to make sure ride heights/geometry don't go completely to pot?!
Before you say it, my budget doesn't stretch to a new set of Nitrons unfortunately redface(
Cheers,
Martin

You need a set of springs/dampers (from a K-series S2; IIRC the rears on the Toyota engined cars are different) and a set of mounting brackets (available from Eliseparts and other specialists).

I've got a spare set of brackets and a front pair of springs/dampers, never used, that I never got round to fitting to my last Elise, if you want to make me an offer - that'd leave you with just a pair of rear spring/damper units to source.

Don't forget to get your geometry checked when you've made the swap!

Yep what Sam said^^^

You'll need to make sure the rear brackets go the right way up and the fronts are located in the right holes to get the correct ride height.Quite a simple job with a few spanners, sockets and a ratchet.Make sure you coat the bolts with penetrating oil the night before you do the job so they undo easily.
Definately get the geometry checked afterwards thumbup

Any S2 dampers will fit the S1 Elise. You do need different rear brackets though. Eliseparts will help if you buy Yota units and Lotus can help with brackets for the K Series units.

Brackets aren't more than £35.

Bell and Colvill are doing a deal with only a few sets left I believe if you want new.

Oh, I have some low mileage S1 LSS for sale if you're interested?

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'll definitely be getting the geometry set up when it's all back together again - had good experience of Centre Gravity in Atherstone in the past (although with an S2000) so was planning to go back there with the Elise unless I can find someone who knows what they're doing in the South Wales or Bristol area.

Sam,
Definitely interested in your dampers & brackets - I'll get in touch off the forum.

Tried the S1 LSS springs/dampers on a previous S1 I've owned and didn't get on with them I'm afraid
