Bright Future for Mallory
Longer lease, better buildings and superbikes are back
The future of Mallory Park racing circuit is looking bright with the announcement of three developments.
Firstly, Mallory Park (Motorsport) Limited has secured a long term lease on the circuit from owners Postcastle Properties Limited. Although the company has leased and operated the circuit since 1984 this is the first time that a long term agreement has been reached.
Secondly, work has begun on a new race control, office and hospitality suite complex. The £750,000 development will be completed in time for the 2004 season and is the first stage of a series of improvements.
Finally and most importantly for Mallory’s spectators, the circuit has been awarded a circuit licence that will clear the way for a return of the British Superbike Championship next season after a one year absence (date to be confirmed).Circuit director David Overend commented: ‘This is a very exciting time for Mallory Park. After the recent death of my mother Edwina, who did so much to secure the circuit, these developments should be considered as a tribute to her memory. Over the next few years we will improve facilities for spectators and competitors alike, building on Mallory Park’s reputation as a venue that provides close racing and great viewing. The new facilities will also enable us to move into new areas such as the conference and function businesses’ .
Mallory Park’s 2004 season kicks off on Sunday 7th March and as well as the Superbike meeting, will include the Post TT for classic motorcycles and end of season Race of the Year, together with races for a variety of cars and motorbikes. When not hosting motorsport events, the circuit is used for track days and is the venue for both car and motorcycle racing schools. Also on site are a motorcycle off road circuit, fishing lakes, workshops and motorcycle training centre.
