Mini Works GP Queries
Discussion
Just looking at possibly getting one of these, and have started doing some research.
I used to have an early standard Cooper S so I presume this one will be noticeably different to drive ??
Also I read somewhere there were no Xenon lights to save weight, was it an option and if so were many specced with them ??
If not are the normal lights adequate for fast country winter driving, or easliy upgraded ??
Finally, maybe a wimpish question, but did I read somewhere that standard Recaros were heated ??
Any info appreciated, cheers.

How about this one - http://www.totalmini.com/forum/88-sale/5484-2006-j...Edited by Alex_MCS on Wednesday 12th August 23:17
If you want a GP and plan to just drive it then thats OK but if you want to change the car as 90% of owners do then go for the works. I have a works and after changing thing its now will all the gear in a lot quicker than the GP.
The GP while a rare production run is nothing special and bar a map and intercooler has the same engine as the works in every way. The GP has less features and has no xenon lights. I think it handles worse than an S as it is actually a little light at the rear and to top it off the thieves know how to take them, they come with no alarm and a very simple to pass immobiliser.
The good thing about the GP is the sale value which you can expect to stay higher then the works, but with the cost of insurance, tax, and petrol this can be a hard mini to sell on too. The body kit is very very expensive if anything would happen and spoilers have been stolen in the past, mostly because they cost over £1000
My advise is leave the GP and go with a nice S works with all the options, if you need more power then there 100's of bolt on parts that will quickly see you with 250Bhp daily driver all this for less than a GP cost - you would be barmy to fork out so much
(Most of this is just my view after spending time with the GP, I have been so depressed with the poor performance and in my eyes offers less than a works for a lot more...)
There is a difference between the GP and the stock S but not as much between the works and the GP, after all they have saved a bit of weight and put on a bigger intercooler, then added a heaver body kit

Great car for occasionaly track day etc. Not sure I could live with one daily.
For the price of a used GP, you could have a newer used JCW with the turbo. Faster car, with 50% more fuel economy.
GP is future classic material however, likely to never drop below 10k for a good one, then should rise in value long term.

Having had a MCS, then gone to a MCS JCW, then to the GP there is a difference, and good difference.
The MCS JCW always felt like a tuned motor, an add on as it was.
The GP is tuned and built to be that car.
The suspension is better, as the rear suspension is different to all the standard MCS or JCW cars, it has the R56 rear arms as well as the JCW suspension as standard.
There is no other MINI like the GP IMO
