Passport running out and travelling abroad
Discussion
Just a quick one for a Tuesday morning (forgive me for not searching, am short on time)
Someone in the office is off to Sardinia on Friday for 2 weeks. They come back on the 28th August but the passport runs out on the th Sept.
Flying with Ryan Air.
Will that be ok or do they need to renew now? The passport office line is charging £1.50 a minute and they just leave her on hold (or so I've been told)
Thank you

according to http://www.worldtravelguide.net/country/129/passpo...
you need a passport that is valid for 3 months after your return

Years ago (nearly 20) I got a 1 year passport that I picked up from the embassy in London. Maybe that is still possible.
Just searched and found this from http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travelling-and-living-ove...
Replacement and emergency passports
We can issue you with a replacement travel document if you need to travel urgently. But we’ll need some verification of your identity and to be satisfied that you are a British national. You’ll also need to show us a police report and pay a fee.
This document may be an emergency passport valid for a single journey, a temporary one-year passport or a standard passport, depending on embassy facilities and your travel needs. We need to make checks before we can issue a passport and this may mean you have to delay your travel plans.
You’ll have to pay an extra fee if staff need to issue an emergency travel document outside of normal office hours. This starts at £121. You should also consider whether you need to obtain an exit visa from the local immigration authorities. Some countries do not issue such visas outside normal office hours.
Check with the local British embassy or consulate to see what services it offers. Local conditions mean that different passport services are available in different areas.
Doesn't look good!
If I get a chance i'll check http://www.britishpassportoffice.co.uk/

Isn't that the company that watchdog had a look into as they charge a premium rate for information that is free elsewhere on the internet?Ryan Air say it'll be fine and that it'll be ok to fly... so thats what they are going with.
Me? I'd get my passport changed...

before you head to liverpool lgf, ring ryannair customer service <stifled laughter> and ask. its actually f
k all to do with them anyway, so additionally call the relevant embassy if you like. they also will not care, but will give you credence to argue the toss with the airline.
fwiw i have travelled to greece on a passport that ran out the day after i returned. also once managed to get a friend to france using his driving licence.

It really isn't me! (my passport has another 2 years on it!)
The colleague has decided to go with Ryan Air's advice and fly.
I'm sure it'll all be fine, but for my own peace of mind I would have followed it up a little more - but you can't force people to do it!
Thanks for all your help
