Be quick to see these - GM will obviously ask for these pictures to be taken down (even though they came from a US mag). These are real pics, BTW.

Another frontal shot......

www.digitalcorvettes.com

Which looks much better than the front shot. That grill is butt ugly and where will you put the front license plate? (not that I use one)

The exterior colour must be the Daytona Orange.

This is the magazine the pics came from.

Is it me or does it look like a Viper SRT/10?

You don't have a front license plate?

I'm wondering the same thing now - where would the license plate go? Good observation.

I see that everyone will still be cleaning crud out of the ledges under the rear lights every five minutes. They've obviously decided that's a Corvette feature worth keeping

I'm definitely happier with the looks of my C5. The front end of the C6 is "just a whole load of ain't right" as far as I'm concerned. Looks like a cross between an MX-5 and an S2000 with a bit of Camaro thrown in for GM brand heritage.

When's the C7 due out ?

Certainly looks like the front was styled in or near Japan. Can't help thinking that if there are going to be convertible and/or hardtop versions (no glass hatch) then it will barely look like a Corvette at all, except from behind. But since that's where other road users are going to see it from perhaps it doesn't matter too much!! The raised hood for those fixed lights might even leave room for some overhaed cams to please the ZR1 faithful.

The best Corvette front end design I have seen was never used. It's on page 35 of Mike Mueller's book "Corvette C5" (Motorbooks Colortech) and more distinctive than the actual C5 face while retaining the very low hood line.

As for dirt in the rear light recesses my theory is that modern cars go through their extensive road testing with covers strapped on the back to disguise the rear design details. Hence no-oner ever found out about the ponding and accumulation of dirt at the back of C5 until it was in production.

For me, that front end confirms all my worst fears. I can live with the back end even though it's "more of the same" but that front end screams "old NSX" and the new NSX will make this look old a day after it's released.

Now it doesn't matter if this car is capable of blitzing Europe's best or not - it's just another "5-series" styling misadventure. Not in the modern supercar league for looks I'm afraid.

A golden opportunity missed and I'll stick to looking for a Z06.
