Halfords tools - False economy?
Discussion
Halfords do some fairly comprehensive tool kits which, when combined with some of their promotions and/or a trade card, look good value. I only do very occassional spannering so a Snap-on set is hardly sensible.
Are the Halfords tools any good or will I find myself stripping sockets and bending spanners?! Any other recommendations at similar money please?

i got one of the old 200piece kits from a place on ebay which sells eturned stuff and got it for 60quid onstead of 200! fantastic bit of kit, iv been using halfords stuff for about 4 years, more than your average home enthusieast and they have been fine, as said the pro stuff is very good!
I bought a Halfords Pro toolkit, 200 piece, which has the lifetime garauntee. I've broken a couple of sockets and need to go down to have them replaced, which they say will be no problem, we'll see
My kit has proved invaluable at the drag strip, not just for me but for other competitors, it just always seems to have a tool for the job, including sparkplug sockets etc and has been used by owners of 1000+ bhp cars to bail them out
It cost me about £100 and has to be one of my best investments over the past few years.
Hope that helps

I have the £150 kit in a flight case. Not sure it's the pro range (which I hear is excellent value for money) but I think it's great for DIY mechanicing.

I've got their top notch kit and have been very impressed with it doing the small bits of spannering I've done at home. I've also got a set of their fixed head Ratchet spanners and after checking their website, they've got the flex-head ones on special half price offer too, so I know where I'll be going (seriously, get some!)
Does anybody hear in the trade use them on a regular basis? I'm doing my apprenticeship and have to amass a box full of tools over the next two years. I've given tooling up almost entirely from Halfords some serious thought, particularly when I can buy another full 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 drive socket set for less than a Blue Point/Snap On 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 Ratchets on their own!

The only problem with the Halfords Pro/Advanced sets is that a good half of the sockets are imperial ,which I just dont use any more.(I do it for a living!) The VFM drops a bit when half the kit is redundant - still good value when compared to Blue Point.
Other than that, they are pretty good for what you pay!

dont know if its the same in all Halfords , but most will only honour the life time guarantee on
production of the original till reciept,
this is apparently due to the fact that some kit is being resold and warrenty only applies to original owner.
edited to add... i know the spellings bad.
