Hey, so...

I am booked up to go to Japan on the 26th December, I'm going for 2 and a half months with a few friends from home, a few I met in New Zealand a couple years ago and a some others from other places may pop out while we're out their.

We're flying into Tokyo and plan on staying their for New Year, any advice on accomodation whilst were there, I know it's the most expensive city in the world so cheap advise appreciated! Also for New Year's I've been advised that 'Womb Bar' is supposed to be pretty epic? Anyone been or have any other opinions on this?

We're planning on getting the bullet train on the 1st/2nd January to Niseko as we're doing the season snowboarding. I've sorted accomodation for that at Niseko Backpackers. The lift pass is still to book though. The All Mountain Pass comes up at about £960 eek, I've been advised that if you book early there's a 30% discount so any help with where to do that appreciated! Also need help with the Bullet Train, if it easy to book, is it really that expensive? Bear in mind the closest I come to speaking Japanese is what I have tattoo'd on the back of my neck.

If any of the PH massive has been and can advise on anything it would be much appreciated!

IIRC Tokyo basically shuts down over christmas and new year, so book your accommodation ASAP. Depends what kind of accommodation you want on your first night; I stayed at the Granbell Hotel in Shibuya ( http://www.granbellhotel.jp/index_e.html) which is a boutique hotel but one of the most reasonable pricewise places to stay (or it was in 2007).

Bullet Trains can be expensive but it depends how far you're going; if you can get a JR Rail Pass from someone like http://www.japanrailpass.net/ before you travel to Japan it should work out cheaper for you.

Have fun; I loved Japan and wish I had the finances to go back sometime soon frown
