I am ready to order a new Cooper diesel on the scrappage scheme but my local dealer tells me there is a 7-8 week lead time as all cars are made to order.

Is this the case at all dealers? Does no-one order cars for stock?

I need the car as quickly as possible and the only option I want is metallic black paint.

I ordered one new with the scrappage and got it in a week.

Firstly specced up a new-build one, then asked what new and unregistered ones they had kicking around that met my spec to save a few more quid.

They had 3 to choose from. I missed the first two, but a couple more came up within a couple of days.

Any big dealer will have showroom cars and/or cancelled orders.

Got mine from Coopers who are pretty big.

Thanks for that.

Have been speaking to the dealer in Perth who quoted me 6-7 weeks, but I am test driving a car from the Aberdeen dealer on Monday so will ask them what's available.

Did you have any success in getting additional discount with scrappage? I would be happy enough if they did metallic paint foc.

I negotiated quite hard. Initially they told me that they don't discount Mini's as they sell themselves so they don't need to discount. After I walked they called and said they'd give me their maximum discount of 2% if I paid a deposit straight away.

This went up another 2% by getting a ready-built car and a bit of last minute pushing got me another 2% and some extras thrown in. So in the end I got quite a bit of discount.

To get the final discount I called a Mini in Newcastle and North Wales (I live in Essex) and played the 3 against each other which worked a treat wink

The scrappage car was a write off too, so I got the extra money back on that too making it a cheap new Mini smile

Good luck. Just don't let them know that you need it quick when haggling or they'll have you over a barrel before you start, so just chuck that one in at the last minute before paying a deposit.

Ordered a Mini Graphite diesel.

Happy with the deal - 500 pounds off list and TLC free of charge.

Collecting the car at the weekend, but slightly worried about buying a car for 30,000 miles pa that I've never driven!

Good choice smile Graphite was my preffered colour, but they didn't have any available when I bought mine.

I do about 2k miles a month in mine and it's been perfect so far. You have the warranty if anything goes wrong.

The driving position is very BMW, so you should get on fine with it.

Just bought (well ordered) a Cooper D Graphite to help minimise the miles on my GT3. Are there any absolutely options? So far I've specced the Chilli Pack and Sports Suspension. Any thoughts on others?

Got a delivery date first week of October, but I'm held back by scrapping my old Saab station car.

The only must have things apart from the chili pack for me were visibility pack (heated screen and mirrors), bluetooth connectivity (for easy mobile phone connection and use through stereo), iPod connectivity (usb and aux sockets to allow you to plug in iPod and control it through the stereo) and armrest.

The armrest is a bit of an afterthought and gets in the way of the handbrake, but would still prefer to have it than not.

The bluetooth is great. The iPod connection is the basic one and you still have to spend a further £35 for a connection lead, but more than worth it to have all of your music at your fingertips. There is an option where your iPod connectes in the glovebox, but that's more expensive.

Heated seats and xenons would have been nice, but not essential.

Thanks!

I was looking at the iPod integration however I use my iPhone as a satnav so the armrest location is a little inconvenient to say the least!

My wife's saying 'heated seats, heated seats' as her highly specced Cooper S Convertible doesn't have them, but personally I can do without heated everything! The Xenons would be nice option and I'm tempted.

So it looks like:

Chilli pack
Sports Suspension
Sports Button
Xenons

Nice to have:

Sun Protection Glass
