autofocus fault on my Canon 300D, I repaired it myself!
Discussion
Thought i'd just write a little on what happened lastnight, I was out taking some shots when suddenly my Canon 300D stopped autofocusing, i quick search on the net and the answer was found, there is a common fault on the 300D which is pin that moveds the sub mirror back up breaks away causing no light to get to the autofocus sensors.
found a really useful website by someone that found the fault, repaired there own and took some pics, 2 1/2 hrs later mine is now fully working again! YIPEEE!
I repair pc's, laptops and printers etc for a living so had all the tools to hand plus the patients and expertise to do it , it was either repair it myself or buy another second hand body as the repair bill would have cost more than a second hand one (mines well out of warrenty and second hand BTW)
thought i'd post a thread about it on here incase anyone else has a 300D locked away with a similar fault, heres the site:-

I'm impressed - there might also be call for a little sideline to your other repair work?
Or it might even be worth checking eBay or similar & buying these models with the same fault, repairing & selling them on?........other models may also be effected by this fault.
I have to say that I'm suprised Canon don't offer a free repair via their service centres. I've got an old powershot A70 that suffered CCD failure & recently went in for a free sensor replacement!

I know it's a different model, but there have been issues with 5D mirror:

Well, if someone came on here asking for their 300D to be modified i'd glady undertake it on the condition that there is the chance it might not be repairable simply because the flash board is a pain i the ass to remove and many people have written off their cameras while trying to remove said board.
might have to give ebay a check though for any cameras giving the same fault though.
