I'm thinking of purchasing a Squeezebox Duet - I already have a QNAP 209 with 2x1TB drives in which I believe will work with the Duet?

Currently I rip my CD's to MP3 format as I have a Sony NWZ-A818 Walkman which only handles MP3 and WMA files.

I believe that FLAC is the format of choice for Squeezebox?

If I re-rip my CD's into FLAC and store on the QNAP, what do I need to do to get them on my Walkman? Is there software that will convert the FLAC to MP3?

People only use FLAC because they're hooking up the Squeezbox to a high end Hi-Fi. Why go through all the hassle if you want to use the Walkman?

Just carry on with MP3. Compressed audio sounds fine on my hi-fi through exactly the same setup you're describing (IMO).
