Just bought my first Golf! Love the mkIV shape and became bored with my Focus diesel co car:-

Anyone else on here got a 1.8T 150bhp Golf?

Congrats on finally getting a decent car! wink

What's the Golf like to drive, I had the comprable A3 1.8T and found it fairly pleasant if a little dull to drive.

Cheers for the comment lol

I've only driven it 40 miles so far as it only got taxed today! Gonna start using it daily soon but it needs a mechanical checkover first before i start drivin it properly!

Get it remapped! It transfors the car, and you should be able to get it done for no more than £250.

TBH they're probably exactly the same to drive as the A3 ie a bit dull, but they make for an excellent everyday car and are just so well designed and built compared to anything else in their class.

If the cambelt needs doing or you're going to do it as a matter of course then make sure you change the water pump at the same time as they are if still the original one made of crap plastic that disintegrates over time and will fail, to get to it the cambelt has to come off! I had mine done when I got my A3 and the updated metal blade one from Audi was only £13 I doubt any mechanic would charge much extra if anything to fit it.

That looks like a good clean example there.

Remap is worth every penny. My A3 1.8T was given one by Custom Code....silky smooth and loads more power...well worth it smile

Just had it checked over this morning at the garage where i work. It has a small oil leak from the cam cover gasket and front crank oil seal which will be fixed. I'm also changing the cambelt and water pump as suggested, thanks.
The rear pads are being changed and the air con is being regassed.
Should be in fine fettle after that lot!!
