What do you expect to get from your road tyres in miles?

Before someone pipes up with 'how long is a piece of string' or similar answer, I’m fully aware that it will vary according to car, F/R, driving style, ambient conditions etc etc etc etc, but I’m interested to see what the 'norm' is across the board, and across all spectrums.

So, you, yes YOU. When you next purchase new tyres, how many miles do you expect to get out of them before you need to replace them?

Have voted 20k+ as on the Mazda it has done mainly motorway mileage and have got just under 20k on current set.

However bike would expect less than 4k and westfield about 5k miles.

Ta.

Interesting poll so far, possibly suggesting three distinct categories:

Circa 4k - Track/Performance based machine.

10k (+/-2k) - Normal PH'er daily driver (comfort + performance machine).

Circa 20k - Motorway mile muncher.

Both my current cars have tyres that have covered in excess of 20k miles an still have tread depth that's well above the legal minimum. (One pair are approaching 35k).
Having said that, previous cars I've owned have worn-out tyres in around 12k miles.

fronts last about 20-24K
rears about 10-12k

When I bought it fronts needed replacing at 10k but due to crazing in between the treads not due to too low. New aggressive Geo means they wear faster now. Better on corners though smile

Hows about this:

Land Rover Owner, Peter Ledger, recently contacted 4-Site 4x4 tyre centres to report that the 265/75 R16 BF Goodrich All Terrain tyres fitted to his vehicle had achieved an unbelievable 120,000 miles!!! As the UK distributors for BF Goodrich the 4-Site 4x4 tyre network has long been aware that this fantastic product offers durability and longevity that is matched by none, but at 120,000 miles even they were staggered. Alan Baldwin, director of Southam Tyres (who run the 4-Site 4x4 dealer network) commented, "This has to be some kind of record, perhaps the highest mileage ever recorded on a set of road-legal, domestic tyres in the UK" Unfortunately for BF Goodrich, it's impossible to have this kind of achievement recorded in the Guinness book of records because their stringent rules and regulations mean an adjudicator would need to oversee every mile the vehicle travels. However 4-Site 4x4 tyre centres say, it is not uncommon for customers to call us, and report 100,000 miles on a set of BF Goodrich 4x4 tyres.

Mr Ledger commented; "the tyres have been on the vehicle since it was manufactured in 1996, there is no doubt I will be replacing the existing tyres with BF Goodrich All Terrains". Alan Baldwin adds "The Land Rover 90 and its 265/75 R16 BF Goodrich All Terrain tyres have proved to be a fantastic combination, and unbelievably, even after 8 years of use the tyres still meet the minimum legal tread depth requirements. The BF Goodrich brand presents a classic "you get what you pay for" scenario. Superb performance and unbeatable treadwear from a top quality premium product".

Not me BTW.

Back in the glory days of my youth I'd get 25k easy out of my Fiesta tyres. These days I'm lucky if I get 10k on the CL, and the XJ I had before the fronts would be done in 6k.

RWD 3 series. Just had them all changed at 28k.

The fronts were below 2mm on the edges, but above that elsewhere. The rears still had 4mm, but one had a nail in and couldn't be repaired and I insisted they do both sides - pointing out to the lease co. I was hardly burning through tyres.....
