Whilst visiting Le Mans this year I saw an exige without a roof, are they removable? I thought they were fixed?

Three star headed bolts holding the front edge strip in place, and then one bolt in each corner. It takes me about 4 minutes on my own, although I need an extra pair of hands to place it back on again. It is a nice change to drive topless, although it does upset the aesthetic balance of the design.

I thought I would look at fitting a soft top conversion for the summer when I first bought my car, as I loved ripping the roof of my Elise. I must be honest though, I don't think I can justify it, what with the sate of our current weather climate.

No problem for the handling / rigidity etc? I wouldn't want a soft top, just like topless!!

I think the roof doesn't have any structural purpose, just aerodynamics?

I did it once on mine when I first had it - good fun and doesn't affect handling at all, but I felt exposed (not a fan of open top driving), so haven't done it since.

Yeah the Exige roof is non structural and the top vent doesn't do anything unless you have a supercharged one.

And if it's supercharged? I'm thinking of the exige s with the performance pack i.e 240bhp

Then the roof scoop feeds the intercooler so I suppose in theory you might get a slight drop off in power if you take the roof off. I suppose it depends on what the airflow around the roll bar is like with the roof off.

Scoop doesn't do anything measurable anyway so don't worry.

My current Exige has soft top conversion (see profile). biggrin

Got to say, why would you want to take the roof off the Exige? Had an Elise when I wanted a soft top, didn't drive it enough with the roof off to justify not buying an Exige! If you're buying a Performance Pack Exige then I wouldn't recommend taking the roof off or having it modified to be able to. Just my opinion of course. Work on the theory that if you want a roof off car, buy the Elise, if you want more power, buy the Elise SC. However i'd scrub the roof off idea completely and buy the bonkers Exige S with Performance Pack. Granted I'm slightly biased!

Only S2 Exige has a removable roof... not removable on the S1 as it mounts the rear hatch and rear clam.
