What they like in normal everyday use then?

Been reading up for the last week or so, but not read any real criticisms, constructive or otherwise.

Model in question is a 2007 with the optional ceramic brakes and, with under 20k miles on it, seems to tick all the boxes so far.

Hoping to swap my E55 in against it, so still a bit unsure of the total costs, but certainly < £40k

Seems an awful lot of car for the money.

Any advice would be very welcome.

Ta.

Hi,

I've got no experience with the carbon brakes or really pushing it hard, but when I was looking at replacing the big car I did seriously consider an S8 (eventually went for the 'normal' A8). Very quick, refined and comfortable over long journeys, I love the look of it and the engine sounds good too. When pushing on through a B road, the grip levels and speed are all excellent, but I found that there wasn't as much driver involvement as I would have liked (lack of steering feel, and generally didn't excite me). There is also quite a lot of tyre roar on the motorway (although this is a problem on all A8s I've found...), probably more noticable due to the refinement otherwise.

From my drives in one, it's simply an A8 that goes a bit faster and looks a bit better. However, if you're after the extra performance you won't be disappointed - it is a lot of car for the money and is a very easy one to live with every day. The above aren't really criticisms as such, but from what I've heard it'll be a bit less hardcore than an E55, so be prepared for that.

Hope this helps smile

Thanks for the reply.

I appreciate it won't be as *lively* as the AMG, though I'm getting older now and like my creature comforts, and there do seem to be lots of them with this motor. (I do still enjoy a bit of get up and go though)

It'll only be used once a week on a 130 mile round trip, mainly motorway, though may get taken down to SW France in September.
Any other use is just local, though I'm walking a lot at the moment so it'll be spending a lot of time in my garage hopefully.

Going to have a good root round it tomorrow (bloody forecast says it'll be lashing down) though have an E63 to look at later in the week.

Any other comments welcomed about these big S8s, though all the write-ups I've seen so far have been pretty positive.

Thanks again.
