As the title suggest really, I can cut bits off the start and end of HD Videos but that's really it. Windows movie maker won't do it and the same with Ulead Video studio so is there anything that is free and not on trial. I can also record in AVCHD if that helps.

might be worth seeing if the Panasonic software for AVCHD is available for free download?

I have that and in my view it's c**p you can only cut bits out and that's it.

fair enough....I've got Pinnacle so don't use it but thought it could do more than "cutting bits out".

However, I'd suggesting going straight to Virtual Dub http://www.virtualdub.org/ if all you want to do is top and tail stuff.
