E60 M5 Future Values
Discussion
Evening all!
Havin a big debate down the local tonight about future values of E60s and comparison with E39 M5s.....
What do you reckon a six year old E60 M5 saloon (good nick, good spec, say 50000 miles and BMW warranty) would be worth?
Some geezers thought less than £20K, even approaching £15K....around the same or even less than E39s!
What do you think??

I think they'll tank in the long term. There's lot of them vs the E39. They're brutally expensive to run even vs an E39 and mechanically they're your worst technological nightmare. BMWs warranty price must give some indication of the future in this respect.
The E34 has a reputation as a money pit, in 10 years time the E60 will make us wonder what the fuss was about.

In the future more and more people will hanker after cars which can be driven, not cars driven by computers. I cannot see many 4th or 5th owners having the money nor the specialist knowledge to keep these cars on the road, whereas E28's, E34's and E39's can still be worked on by local specialists.
Values will fall after a car is 5 years old and I believe many will be broken for useable parts not available at a good price from BMW. Third owners may also not be willing to pay BMW warranty prices either.
Not a good car to buy for a long term affair.

Oh, don't be such a bunch of pathetic ninnies - it's an amazing car that is now very cheap, so just enjoy it. 500 bhp for £30k is an utter bargain, even if you get a £5k bill in the first year.
Agreed, if you're a 'Magic Circle' partner I guess its small change!Zod is right, 500bhp for under 30k IS small change.
In other words. 30k is a lot of money, don't think anyone has said otherwise, but it's not a lot of money for a 500bhp of automotive art.
on topic now: I disagree with the tanking price forecast.
BMW does extended warranty up to 10 years old, and I would not have a modern car without one, even if it was a 2 litre diesel.
However in another 5 years the M5 will not seem so complicated anymore and electronic parts that are no longer made will most likely be replaced or adapted with modern and cheap to produce electronics anyway.
The last season M5 was also a technological nightmare at the time but people seem to cope with it today.

Utter tosh, old bean. It's called progress: if you valued some rose tinted notion of unaided motion so dearly then ditch the E34 and tame a wild stallion. Or walk!
I cannot abide this luddite bias against vehicular development on such tenuous grounds: where do you draw the line on what is and isn't acceptable intervention?
I honestly believe it's all predicated on some farcical, flat earthist machismo which sees men who think themselves Fangioic tyre shredders preconditioned to respond accordingly when in fact, they are not, emphatically, racing drivers.

I don't know whether belleair has had any experience int he M5, but it sound like armchair thorising to me. The M5 is a car that CAN be driven and it can be driven aided or unaided, thus actually giving the user a choice.

The bill is more likely to be £10/£15k.
