PS3 - worth it?
Discussion
Got a 360 .... mate is selling a VGC PS3 for a £200 with some games (not to fussed on whether the price is good or not) more curious if its worth having a PS3 and a 360? Are there games i can only get on the PS3 that are worth it?
for the record...i like to shoot stuff. GOW, etc (i say "i"....my 8 year old is a GOW addict and he wants to know if theres anything he can blow away on a PS3 that he cant on an Xbox!)

I've got both and tbh, the PS3 is only used as a bluray player now...
When GT5 comes out, it will get more use, but an inferior game catalogue, inferior online experience and clunky way of playing games (mandatory installs on most titles which can take at least 15 mins) have dulled the thing down for me.
GT5 will hopefully change that, but I'll be knee deep in Forza 3 by then though!!!

Well worth it.
Inferior catalogue? Slightly but not much, I have about 10 games and they are all top quality.
Online. I had a 360 and cannot notice the difference between the PS3 and 360. COD4 is identical on both consoles, even the online. That said, I don't use cross game invites etc but just decide what game I want to play. As for installs, not that many games have them and maybe take 5 or 10 mins to install which isn't much as it only happens once so no big deal.
I have had a 360 with 2 RROD's before anyone accuses me of being a fanboy.... and haven't missed the 360 one bit. Would probably be the same going from a PS3 to a 360.
Find out what your friends are using and get that or look at the exclusive games and see which is better for you. The consoles are really that evenly matched but have a slightly different way of doing things.

I'm far from a fanboy on either console - I couldn't care less which is better, but as I see it the PS3 doesn't have the games behind it that the 360 does, and that's kinda priority numero uno for a games console!
As for paying for online, that horse is starting to smell now, about time the flogging ceased!!! You can pick up a 360 for about £170, add £40 for the online and you're still nowhere near the price of a PS3.
I don't doubt the PS3 is a powerful machine, and it's not being shown off in it's best light yet, but Home (which was meant to be the PS3s online saviour) was a dismal waste of time, GT5 which was one of the machines halo titles is so far delayed it's a joke, and yes the 360 does RROD (I've had 2 of them die on me myself!) but everything electrical will fail at some point in time!
Of the goodies plugged into my telly, Sky HD is in most use, followed by the 360, followed by the PS3. Other people's use may differ!

yes definetly worth it tbh. it just depends on what games you like. if its mainly driving games just stick with the xbox.
i got my ps3 due to xbox games losing my interest and the ps3 catalogue becoming increasingly appealing, killzone 2, metal gear solid 4, gt5, uncharted 1 and 2, heavy rain etc. online is much better as its free and much easier when it comes to buying content.
although im dying for forza 3 in october

I have both, and the 360 never gets used now tbh. PS3 is dvd/blu-ray, avi and streaming player and games, plus is far quieter than 360. There are some games which are super fun as well - WipEout HD for instance, SuperStardust HD, Flower, the Last Guy - all great games.
If you want to play the 'big' games like COD4 or whatever, the general consensus is that the gfx are better on the 360 because of memory bandwidth and dedicated AA processors.
Depends what you want it for

That may be right but I still say that you'd need to be running them side by side to really tell the difference.Tycho said:

t TV wipes out nearly all of the difference/point. And most people whether they want to hear it or ot have average TV's.Much prefer the PS3 as a package, looks better, has BR player, free online, better built, better controller.

Personally, I prefer the games on PS3 though. I thought LBP would be garbage for ages, eventually got it, and was hooked by it's charm and hilarity.

I have both and my PS3 is for Blue ray and home MP3 storage/player only... imho the PSN online gaming side is very weak compaired to XBL
I have always have more than one games console at any given time so i'm not a "MS Fanboy" by a long way
just saying it as i find it
and right now the XBOX360 is the better bet for online gamingEdited by y2blade on Tuesday 28th July 07:58

Gone back to PC for online games.
Ultimately that is where the best online gaming is to be had, it seems you cannot mute people on PS3 cod4, and it does my f
king head in, as some people just leave their mics on all game. Constant feedback and s
t music.I certainly am, and cant stand playing fps if the name of the game is accuracy.
Saying that my online gaming extends to Counter Strike so... may not be totally representative.
As for is the Ps3 worth it?
Well... Its not worth selling for what I would get back.
It works well as a BR player and for the occasional dose of gaming i.e. guitar hero, little planet and still the best fps on the Ps3 TC Rainbow 6. But I never get home and think excellent no boyfriend duties tonight and think I’ll play on the PS3 usually its
- go out of my bike
- gym
- go to the pub
- order takeaway and watch a film
- play CS (with people I would say are good online friends. (I.e. speak to them outside the game but have never met them)

COD online is free on the PS3 (possibly not as good as on the 360, but you don't have to play) Killzone 2 is good. Uncharted and soon Uncharted 2 as well and action adventure games but with a decent bit of combat. MGS 4 can be played pretty agressivly if you want though for me its more rewarding if you sneak through it.

The Idiot count on Xbox live is far higher than on the PS3. PS3 online seems a more mature place to me. Its gets my vote (oh and its free).
depends who you play with, my friends list is mostly PHers so we use invite only lobbys and enjoy like minded companyhave found the open lobbys on both PS3 and XBOX360 hold the same sort of muppets....i just turn the earpiece volume down/off
I've got both consoles and great as the 360 is, I only use it for online play with the PH crowd. And this isn't because it's better at online, it's because the 360 is the console with the most owners in the crowd I play against (Redbull, Rarathoon, B3NJX etc). If they all had PS3's then the xbox would gather dust just as it does the rest of the time.
PS3 matches or beats it in every other respect unfortunately. Not being a fanboy, just stating opinion based on ownership of both consoles. I still love the 360 (I bought it first and wont sell it) but the PS3 is just so much more "complete".
Here's a good idea though...
It the end of the day they are both fantastic consoles and if you are in the position to own both then do so. If you can only afford one... get the one your mates have all got and you still wont be disapointed.
ps. Those people saying COD is better on the 360.. codswallop. Played it on both and it is totally identical (in fact I found the free PS3 servers less laggy the few times I've played).

I'd never consider a 360 though. Yeah, Sony fanboy a touch.
