My mother's Casio compact has apparently packed up, so a new one is required. I don't have the first clue about what to look for, she just wants something reasonably simple with decent, easy to achieve results. The budget is ideally around the £100 mark.

Any suggestions?

This is on e bay - 3 days to go. It's gotta be worth £70 - not the best camera ever, but hey, for that money...

Fiver over budget, but I got my mum a Sony the xmas before last and she loves it. The little spin wheel gives you on screen chat about what the setting does and what it's good for, which my mum certainly likes.
Other than that an ageing ixus like a 70 or something like that is worth looking at.

I've just got a Canon Powershot A590IS, brand new on ebay for £96 including postage, they have more to sell. Only just got it, but it seems superb. I went with another Canon as my A520 (stolen) was so good - easy to use, reliable, good battery life and great images despite being only 4MP (the A590 is 8MP). Also, whilst compact, it's not too tiny for my big hands, and has an SLR-style 'grip' on the right hand side which makes it easy to hold.
