I don't think you'll get many arguements on that score.

Oh, god I really is quite ugly is it not.
My first reaction to these pics was 'japanese people carrier'.

Maybe at a blurry 165mph it will look better.....

WOOF.

how long will Porsche keep trying to get rid of the fact that there is only one: 911.

Oh dear.

Still, it'll probably sell well in the States (at least it had better do for Porsches sake!)

Almost pointless commenting on this - just what ...... what is the point of this car? A case of the Emperor's clothes I reckon - no one had the balls to say anything!

Sorry guys. It may look sh**e. (It does) but they'll flog a truckload. I don't know why people buy these things (X5, Rangey are a mystery to me) but all 4x4s look positively awful so whats the difference?

The 4x4 buying crowd now have yet another top-of-the-range type 4x4 to choose from. The Porsche badge carries some kudos so they *will* sell some.

How many, mind you, is anyone's guess. My bet is enough to make money.

No-one on a sports car site is going to get excited by one of these - least of all me.

This has now turned me right off the 996 turbo, as they now look the same from the front. I don't want a super car that looks like some housewifes school run van. I would now only ever consider a 993tt or 996 GT3 from the Porsche stable, as they don't share the new family 'face'. A supercar should stand alone, not blend into a range. What next? Maybe a seven seater people carrier with a 996 turbo front 'face'. Why oh why oh why..........

I wasn't going to rise to this but couldn't help myself

I really think it’s all quite clever. You need to develop a new engine. Do you do a TVR and use you loyal followers as a test bed. No! You build a completely new car that definitely won't appeal to the Porsche faithful. Then use this less appealing side of society (read into that what you will, but we all have a picture of the type of people who will end up buying these things and there place of residence) to carry out your volume testing.

They can be the guinipig, who cares if their 4*4 grinds to a halt, not bloody me! Once we have the all clear, shoehorn it into a proper car.

Oh yes, it looks f'ing awful.

Mind you, with all that ducting at the front, you'd hope the thing would stop !! Christ, I hope there's grills of sorts - you could catch small furry mammals in them !

Oh, and and if it turns you off a 996 Turbo then I guess it's your loss. Corporate identification does have its downsides I suppose.

It does nothing for me, but then I'm classed as a DINK - why the hell would I want one ? To sit in and look down at the chattering classes ?!!!

It'll sell bucketloads in the US, and make a shedpile of money for Porsche, which in turn they can use to develop new cars.

C'mon guys, they're not abandoning sportscar production.

Sure is a bit of a boring looker - most closely resmbles a Hyundai. Oh dear, oh dear. And whats with the Mercedes SLK type power bulges in the bonnet?? Still it is bound to be a cracking drive as this is one thing Porsche do not get wrong and if you need something with four proper seats then this might be just the ticket. Heres hopng they sell lots of them in the good ol US of A so that Porsche can concentrate on some new sportscars/racecars!!

One other thing. It doesn't look very "Utility" does it. Where is the ground clearance?

Welcome back Leithen - not seen you in a while. Were you hiding under the same rock as Mr Stewart Snr ?

Greg

PS - SUV on a trackday ? Now there's a thought.

As far as looks go I think the X5 sport looks much better. I reserve judgment until I've seen on in the flesh though - things always look different. I imagin one will be around here very soon (Monico,Nice,Cannes).
