I am driving down to the Dordogne in August. Best route seems to be via Le Mans. Is it Autoroute all the way, and if so, roughly how much is it?

Note to mods : I realise that this should be in Hols and Travel, but seeing as it gets hardly any traffic I have put it in here for the moment. Thank you.

Apparently its £40 odd quid in tolls...

I've done it a few times but I've always gone from NewHaven. It was much cheaper and the drive the other end was easier.

I see the mods listened to the plea not to move the thread....

Well at least it started in the 'lounge'.

Failed traffic wardens.

Pretty much Autoroute all the way.
We did the same trip in June - stopped overnight at Rouen on the way down, but did it in 1 hit on the way back.

Roads are great - I echo what the others say. Use www.viamichelin.com for directions and toll info, and get a decent road map as well.

There is an 'economical' button you can click on that site when routefinding, for the best toll/fuel compromise.
