I suggest you take a look on www.parkers.co.uk. They have a fairly comprehensive list of models.

I'd suggest looking on PH Classifieds section for a car you can afford to buy and like and then getting an insurance quote for it, if its too expensive then go back to PH Classifieds and find something with a smaller engine or lower spec and try again.cheers

So you want years and engines of all the MK1, 2 and 3 Golfs? I could tell you the vast majority of them but that's a lot of info!
What exactly is it you need to know? Narrow it down for us a little
I need as much info as you can give mateWhat exactly is it you need to know? Narrow it down for us a little

any info you can give would be useful
have you tried - WIKIPEDIA cars + "VW GOLF" you would be amazed what you might find. Similarly Parkers is useful for engine spec but not really for interior spec and options spec not to mention the MPG, 0-60 and top speed information sometimes being a bit vague and misleading.
Basically in a mk3 you want a GTI 16v (2.0 16v 150hp) or VR6 (2.8 6cylinder 175hp) if you can afford them. A 1.8 Driver (1.8 single point injection 90hp) looks like a GTI but certainly doesnt go like one. The 1.6 and 1.4 both have sub 75hp and in a car weighing over a ton these are neither fast nor that economical.
