Myself my GF and our friends are going camping Saturday and are trying to find a campsite close to some pubs, nice walks and with the usual required facilities (i.e shower & toilet), can anyone recommend me some in the lakes?

Thx

camp sites like that are all over the place up there, just drive up and have a look around.

This is true, but they're busy this year so booking's a good idea.

There's a campsite next to the Old Dungeon Ghyll, but I haven't been there for years so can't guarantee the facilities (apart from the ODGdrunk)

Camping in the Lake District during the summer months can be horrendous, chavs fill most of the bigger sites and loud music/revving engines and braying children are common.

In fact the best time to visit the Lake District IMO is any time other than July and August when it becomes over subscribed with badly equpipped hillwalkers, coach trips from Manchester and Teesside, people who are freaked out at the idea of roads next to water or that are high up, and is at least as busy as some city centres all the time.

This one in keswick is very good. It's quite large, and can get busy. I've stayed here a few times, and can recommend it.

There are plenty of pubs in Keswick, and some of the bigger name outdoor shops. Most will let you take dogs in (although some of the pubs won't if there's food service on).

There's a decent sized Booths supermarket near by, which has a range of qulity foods, most locally sourced, and a good beers/wines/spirits selection.

And the walk anticlockwise around Derwent Water, over Cat Bells is nice, and not too taxing.

Not far, but take a torch for the walk back from the pub. Last time I was there the last bit of road was unlit and a bit tricky after a couple of shandies...

Ten minutes slow stroll, tops. Plenty of "proper" pubs in Keswick.

This is an excellent campsite, I'm off there for the 6th time this year in September, once it's quieter!! Booths is a FAB supermarket for fresh food & alcohol. Keswick is a minute or twos walk away.

Keswick is fully booked and looking like they may have to close it due to as she put it "terrible ground conditions" :-(

Boo. Will have to rethink my next weekend then.

Have a Google of camping "pods" for something a bit different in the Lakes.

Google Hawkshead Croft Campsite, about 4 or 5 pubs within a 3 minutes walk of campsite

Get yourself to the Great Langdale campsite. I echo the need for a mallet and proper pegs as the ground is hard but the pubs are nearby and the Sticklebarn Tavern is ok for grub. I was there a month ago and its a case of first in gets the spaces. Fills up Friday afternoon so you could do with a backup. I also recommend the farm at Glenridding (next to Ullswater). Again theres a couple of pubs and its first come first served. Tends to be ok there though.
