Is it advisable to pre-book these before going out or are they regular enough that I could book, say the day before I want to go. I'm thinking of going from Orlando to Washington DC mid-way through my holiday then driving up to Boston area to visit friends (making a bit of a road trip of it) but not sure whether I should book the internal flight now or wait until I'm there and see what the price etc is?

Anyone have any experience of this at all?

Watch out for checked baggage fees. Even on pre-booked flights you can find yourself paying $15-$25 per bag on internal flights...

Pre-book, and also check-in online as soon as you can beforehand. They overbook flights as they do here, but the popular routes do get stacked out. We got the last two seats last year on a flight from San Fran to Portland befoer we realised that the masses checkin online.

^^^^^^^

What he said. yes

Pre-book, E check-in etc etc.

Internal flights are always overbooked, they run like buses - have a schedule and stick to it.
No matter ow many people are booked on. If the flight is over booked at check-in, the Airlines offer passengers free flight vouchers to stand down and take a later flight - giving up their seat.
If you need to be somewhere at a specific time do everything you can to ensure your seat.

Southwest from Orlando - D.C roughly $69 one way (maybe less if you install the "ding" application from the SW Site).

Southwest and Jet Blue to my knowledge are not charging the baggage fee (Southwest also allow 2 checked bags for free).

I would also pre-book and check in online 24 hours before the flight. smile

Avoid AA!!!

When I edit Continental flights, I reserve seats for groups on their onward internal connections. I can be struggling to sit a couple together on a flight in 7 days time.

I had a woman flying on a staff ticket conecting to an internal flight today, it was oversold by 10 commercial passengers and had 16 staff waiting to get on as well.

I'd book in advance !
