Elise S2 Hardtop Leaks
Discussion
Hi,
Having trawled the net for some idea's I thought there would be a few posts around about leaky Elise's roof's as I know it's common, but Does anyone have any good ideas on how to stop or manage leaky roofs?
I'm guessing the issues are the same on S1 and S2 models, on mine water comes in through the top of the window, and soaks into the sponge at the edge of the hardtop. But either there is too much water or once this has soaked up all it can. the seat it wet.
Has anyone come up with a seal that can be put on when the car is not being used? or any other ingenious methods?
Thanks

Its a 2001,
Yeah it does look like its coming in the front corner, The front corner is where the gap is largest, and its only the drivers side.
The water itself drips onto the middle of the door shelf. So I think its coming in at the front , running down the sponge of the roof and dripping from about half way down.
Can't quite work out how it gets as far inside as the seat, presume its bouncing or running off from the door shelf

They fixed that leak with new seals on the MY04 cars. You can replace the seal, but it's the whole front windows/roof seal unit so it's not particularly cheap.
ETA: You can probably make it a fair bit better just by adjusting the window so the front of that one is slightly higher.

from my experience there seems to be a bit of a nack in lining it up properly when you put the top on. for instance, when i picked my car up it had the lid on it, and when the drivers window was fully wound up there was a gap of about 0.5cm at the top of the window which obviously would leak if it had rained.
I took the roof off when we had a bit of decent weather, and when it came to putting it back on there were no gaps at all, and subsequently I've had no leaks at all (even with the torrential rain we've had, i don't have the luxury of a garage)
