You can book flights from Manchester for about £70 each with BMI Baby which is pretty good. There are hundreds of places to stay, depends what you are looking for.

You can rent an apartment right in the centre for about £130 a night which is usually for 4 people so you could find another mate or just pay a bit extra each. Or you can stay in a hostel for around £15 a night, depends what you are after really.

As for spending money it depends what you are going to be up to, £300 would see me through very well for a long weekend. You could have an amazing weekend on a lot less tho.

That does seem like a lot to me. Best to book it separately than go for a package deal in my experience.

As long as you stay close to the centre you will have easy access to everything that Amsterdam has to offer. It's not the biggest place in the world and everything you want is within walking distance. If you do want to get further out of the city for any reason the public transport is excellent and pretty cheap. Most of the bigger cafés even have free maps and everyone will be happy to help you out if you are stuck.

I have friends who recommend this place highly http://www.gerstekorrel.com/ a quick look on expedia and it looks like it would be just under £300 for all of you, will probably get a better quote if you email them direct tho.

I'd recommend staying at the Flying Pig Downtown. Been there many a time. Fairly cheap - something like 30€ a night, well located very close to the center. Has a room where you can cane it up at the end of the night.

for flights, KLM are usually as cheap as the budget airlines if booked early. these are scheduled so you get food and drink included, and the gates they use are not a 5 mile walk from check in. just don't bring certain herbs back, KLM use full body scanners that see through your clothes.

as for accom, its horses for courses. i'd personally avoid the RLD. a b&b in the jordaan area can be as cheap and is a much better experience, everywhere is within walking distance in the dam.

I'd definitely book separately, cheap flights with BMI or KLM as have been said.

As for hostels I've heard that the flying pig is great (having never been though). I've stayed at the White Tulip which I'd recommend, right next to the red light district and on a street with lots of cafes/bars.. Good irish pub downstairs and you get discount on all the food. Happy our aswell!

Ive been 4 times and still love it..Usual budget airlines, KLM, BMI , Easyjet..etc

Have a look on last minute .com for any packages..I have usually just booked the flight and hotel separately..

When looking at Amsterdam , the red light ditrict is usually the cheapest area to stay..Not too bad but can be a bit parniod as it attracta a lot of dodgy blokes standing at the sides ready to pick your pockets..

Very easy to get around in the dam, and offers something for everybody..(Lady Boys if you like a mate told me)

The leidseplein is a bit more expensive to stay but is near the square with pubs and clubs and less dodgy..

Like all cities watch yourself and beer is expensive, women not so if you barter..

Budget wise..Depends what you want to buy, but 300 would sort you out a very good time..
