E36 Evo - idle issues
Discussion
Hi All,
Have had my E36 Evo in storage for around a year, and have had an oil change, new battery fitted for use just recently, however the idle seems to be all over the place, ranging from 500-1250rpm and also cutting out after a drive and coming to a stand still.
any ideas on how to sort this, I was told it could be sensors? anyone had any experiance or ideas on this?
Cheers
Jason

I had this on my 3.0 M3 10/11 years ago and more recently on my 3.0 M3 GT and never got to the bottom of it.
The only solution on the GT is when I had it chipped and it solved the issue. Quite common I've heard from others as well ... i'm sure someone will be along with an explanation soon.

Idle speed control valve?
It's a large T shaped valve tucked underneath the front of the intake manifold/plenum (need to remove plenum to get to it).
Check the hoses attached to it aren't perished (I've just replaced one on mine), remove it and clean it out with brake/carb cleaner.
It may have seized while in storage and it's not controlling the idle.
