I've been given one of these in a box of bit and bobs....

A Nikon AF Nikkor 24mm F2.8

Can;t find info. on the web except for D versions.... anyone know anything about this lens??

First impressions are quite good -- looks more useful for a walkabout lens than my little 50mm F1.8

See what Bjorn says at:

http://www.naturfotograf.com/index2.html

The fact that a lens won't tell the body distance isn't a big show stopper. You could do with a lens hood for it because (and if it's anything like my 35mm f/2) you'll enjoy its flareability!

I had a 20mm f/2.8 for some years and was reasonably happy with it.... .... until I found out its shortcomings on digital. Wasn't too big a problem and I have some superb shots, especially from a US trip that are blown up to 30" x 20" - but the 17-35mm f/2.8 is streets better.

Great lens for walkabout and setting to mid-aperture for candids in the street, I reckon. And anything under a couple of ton would be a bargain!

I have just picked up one of them along with a 50mm for my D80. Not had a huge chance to use it, but intial impressions seem good. I think I still have the instuctions if you want any details.

I had one of those (on my old D70) - good lens and niceand sharp.

Wasn't getting the use, so ebay'd it and was surprised to get over £100 for it...
