AFR heads for LS1's anyone think about them ?
Discussion
According to this site they're not going to be available until January... www.ragingmotorsports.com/
I have used AFR LT1/4 heads for some time, the quality is very good and unlike a lot American tuning parts they do exactly what they say they will.
I have been using LPE LS1/6 heads up to now but they are expensive (as with most of LPE's parts), very interested to hear that AFR will be making LS1 heads, need to give them a try.

There's an argument on this forum about whether AFR heads are worth it, although in the context of the LT1.

Interesting that a couple of the guys advocate port and polish on the stock heads.
We found a lot of inconsistancy in the stock head castings to the point where core shift meant that there was every chance of going too thin in the port and valve seat area and running into major problems. I had a couple of modified heads where coolant leaked from behind the exhaust valve seats, made life kind of interesting!

We've had some stage 2 heads done at Arlington Motorsport in Dallas, coupled with a few other goodies the pace car is running 12.67 @ 112, with 2 second 60ft as it spins a lot! On the subject of LT4, Geoff I believe I have LT4 for LT1 heads that you fitted for my SS a couple of years ago, I presume these can be fitted to the stock engine that I now have, and do I need an LT4 intake? I know there wasn't one before so perhaps its just as good to port match/polich or whatever the stock one?
Forgive me for being stoopid ere....This thread started with heads for the LS1, but the talk is now about LT1.
Are these interchangeable or something ?
I will be looking for heads for an LS6/LS1 in the near future. I currently have only a LS6 short motor, so if good heads are available, then at the price advertised, they seem quite cheap IMO.
I wouldnt have any units for exchange, so the AFR would be handy.

[quote]Stevie, as you know ls1 is push rod design. LT1 is quad cam, so no can do. The only head that will fit your engine is an ls1/6 or truck type head

Sorry to be an anorak, engine designations are as follows;
L98 = C4 vette 86 to 91 and various F body cars in both 305 and 350 cid
LT1 = C4 vette 92 to 96 and F body
LT4 = C4 vette 96 manual transmission only.
LT5 = C4 ZR1 only 375 bhp 90 to 92, 405 bhp 93 to 95
LS1 = C5 vette and various others including Holden, F body, etc. 97 to current.
LS6 cast iron block = original 400 and 427 cid truck motor current production.
LS6 alloy block = original Z06 current production.
Feel better for that.
In answer to your question Heather, when we built your engine originally (four years ago now) it was fitted with GM Motorsport LT4 heads and the intake was matched to the heads. I have heard lots of good things about Arlington Motorsport, my good friend Jim Milstead in Dallas uses them a lot. May give them a try on the next LS1 build we do.

The LS6 was originally designated as a 454 Corvette motor back in 1970. It was also fitted to the Chevelle amongst others.
Back on subject, I read a review recently of an LS6 engine producing 725BHP on the dyno when using the AFR heads.
