xbox 360 help...not red ring
Discussion
Please help, my teenage sons 360 is not working and that makes my life hell !
When you switch it on the power light in the swith flashes constantly and the cd draw will not open.
The console will connect to live etc but just wont open the draw either by the manual button or from the menu. He said that he had 2 red lights the prev day...does this mean its dead or could it be just the drive which had died and can be replaced?
Any recommendations for repairers in the essex area or online
Thanks
ps not sure this should be in this section in the old days I would have put it in P&P. Mods pls move if reqd.

Thanks for the prompt replies guys, as its out of warranty how much does it cost to send to MS?
Would I be better off buying a core system for £90 on amazon and then I assume the hard drive etc just connects on and voila back to normal?
You'd hope MS could fix it for less than the price of a new one. However you may be able to get a 2nd hand core for cheap (look for pre-owned stuff in Game stores).Would I be better off buying a core system for £90 on amazon and then I assume the hard drive etc just connects on and voila back to normal?
Once you have a new one, just pop the HDD on and all your users/games/achievements/purchases will still be availible. I'm on my 4th console at the moment (first 3 did RROD) but I'm still using my original HDD.

Word of warning - all the content you have downloaded is linked to your XBox Live account AND Xbox serial number, so if you aren't logged in to XBox Live any downloaded content won't work on the new console. You will need to migrate all your licences across to the new console, which you can only do once every 12 months.Taffer said:

just been to buy an xbox arcade version but it appears these can only connect wireless to xbox live and not use ethernet cable, is this correct?
The girl in Chavsda wasnt very clued up ! lol
She is talking absolute rubbish.......The girl in Chavsda wasnt very clued up ! lol
The wireless is a £60'ish bolt on piece of kit, all versions have an ethernet port, none come with wireless as standard

Trip to the shop, given duff advice, had to post on a forum to find out the facts and back to the shop again for the purchase, when all they had to do was open a box, timewasters !!

If the button and the on screen command aren't making it open, it could be the motor for the tray that's failed. Unfortunately even that sounds like a return-to-MS job; not sure if it's connected to RROD tho. A 360 forum might be able to tell you more.
+1. This is another fairly common failing for the 360. The disc drives fitted to the original 360s were pretty hopeless.Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
