We stayed here for a wedding a couple of years ago. I might have led a sheltered life, but it was one of the best UK hotel experiences I have ever had - so I am very jealous and I'm sure you and your wife will love it.

It's set in an old country house, in large attractive grounds. We had one of the newer rooms built for the England Rugby team which meant it was enormous, big very comfy bed, and great bathroom.

The spa was great - there was a proper gym, indoor and outdoor pools, steam, ice and sauna rooms and we had a treatment which was great for a hangover.

There's a new restaurant serving (Michelin star?) food which sounds good. My only gripe is that the bar is pretty expensive, but you are paying for the environment I guess. I hope you have a great time!

I stayed there 10 years ago for a family wedding and it was great then.

The bride was not impressed with some of the All Blacks gatecrashing the end of the reception (as they were staying there for some big rugby event). For my dad, the rugby team was the highlight of the wedding...lol

I would stay there again.

Great News !
It's costing a small morgage but hopefully worth it.
Am considering the 10 course tasting menu - wine pairing is a further £65 on top of the £78 for the food !

Nice one.

I'd question going for the wine pairing with he taster menu though. We did this when we went to the Fat Duck. Not including a couple of drinks in the pub next door beforehand, there was a lot of wine (c 10 glasses and top-ups), and by the end we were properly plastered, which meant the latter end of the meal was a bit of a blur.

I would delight the sommellier by asking him for some advice (I always think they seem really underused and love a challenge), telling him what you like and what your budget is and what he thinks suits the meal best. I'm sure you could get a fantastic bottle of red or white, and perhaps a half, or couple of glasses of something else for desert/latter courses for much less than the £135 between you if you went for the set wine. You'd stay more sober to remember/appreciate the rest of the meal then too!

I am very jealous too, I hope you have a great time!

Great advice prand ! In my naviety I thought at best there would be half a dozen glasses. 10 might be a bit much although I like a challenge. That coupled with a port or scotch in the bar after may be a tad excessive.

Why was they not impressed with the All Blacks, or did they TRY it on or make a PASS on one of the brides maids.
