OK, so I'm fed up of my current domain (on BT Broadband) and want a new one. Where's the best place to get one from - there are too many offers and I can't see the wood for the trees out there.

I used to have a domain with freenetname (didn't pay after 3 years and lost it) - should I go with them again?

I await opinions/recommendatons from you learned ones out there ...

We can sort you out.

Alternatively recommend

www.freeparking.co.uk

or

www.ukreg.com/

Thanks.

So I used to have motion-lotion.co.uk on freenetname. I do a search on freeparking and it says already registered (to me!). How do I bring it online (or whatever the term). Ideally FOC

You can't move a domain away from freenetname without them charging you ( i think) £93.

If its still registered to you you should still have control of where the domain forwards to.

Alternatvely you can wait for the domain to expire and purchase through another domain registration company www.123reg.co.uk is my prefered option.

Yes, freenetname expire accoutns after 90days of non use. Having said that, i don't know what they do with the domains as they seem very keen on getting their £93 no matter what happens.

If you fancy pointing your money towards a fellow PH'er

www.Register1.net

Free web / mail forwarding, and custom DNS should you require.

At the moment the domain is Expired AND DETAGGED.

This is better for you, as it means you just need to FAX nominet and get them to RETAG it.

Tho you might find some excess charges may apply, I have had several other clients transfer in outdated domains and had no charge other than the £7.90 renewal fee.

Email me thru my profile if you need any help.

But don't we work in a 'somthing for nothing' world these days? Especially in IT where customers expect the earth and to pay less than Dell charge.

Sure, but you get what you pay for... one way.... or the other

Having said that, Tag the domain over to me, and its FOC for my part until you need to renew.

Nominet is another matter... like i said, i have had it before where they just charge the renewal fee and thats it, but technically they can charge £80~

Man can only try and see.

you know where i am.

Freenetname send you a letter after 90 days.

This is the good bit - they say you can stay or pay 20 quid to transfer it away. Bargain. Much better than the 93 quid they quote before they give up on you

I missed the detagged bit. I was waiting for them to forget to renew mine, but they renewed it about a week before it expired.

May be useful for someone else wanting to move away from them though.

Even if they Do renew it,

technically its owned by you, so if you contact nominet, tell them your in dispute with your current tag holders and would like them to retag it, you might find they just will.
