Discuss:-

The MG is not even the same sport as the Typhon let alone in the same league. In fact, give me a 5 year old Cerbera and around 50 grand in my pocket over the MG anyday

The MG is hideous got Punot headlights and is tooooo big.

I'd have a TVR. It's still a Rover really though isn't it.

Dont care how much power it has, I wouldnt pay 75p for a rover. And whats with those silly black bits on the side. Looks like a replacement pattern panel waiting to be sprayed.

My thoughts exactly. T350C and a lot of pocket money.

I'd have a Typhon, for sure.
Too bad I'm not really faced with this problem though...

No comparison I'm afraid...Typhon beats it by a mile in terms of performance and quality.

the SV is only a Rover that has taken some vitamins...tacky build...even Top Gear said that the TVR would be more reliable!!!

Well I'd have both if I could. The MG could easily be made to go much quicker. That engine can be tuned to 700bhp+ in road trim (without nitrous, it's 1000bhp with nitrous! ) In either of those guises it's going to make the Typhon look like a diesel!

And how many of you didn't think the exhaust note on the MG was truly awesome!?

Why be churlish about it? Both cars are fantastic British achievements. Think of them like Lambo and Ferrari - You may prefer one over the other but given the chance you'd take either one thanks very much!

I'll take the MG in metalic black, and the Typhon in starmist blue please.

Thinking about this for a minute....surely performance would be dictated by power to weight? I'm not sure how much lighter the TVR is, but with 550bhp wouldn't the 'diesel' have a better ratio that a 700bhp (tweeked) MG?
Just a thought...

DJ

edited to add: I'd have the cheaper, better looking, better handling car from Lancashire....

Dunno, what does the TVR weigh - 1350kg? I think the MG is something like 1650kg, so it would be 407bhp/tonne vs 424bhp/tonne. Too close to call really.
Oh well, just have to add the nitrous then - 606bhp/tonne. Bwaahahahahahaha

Andy 400se ( I still love TVR though, and would have a Typhon 550 too)

Edited to add that the MGR website rates the non nitrous engine up to 765bhp, which means 463bhp/tonne. Might not need the nitrous after all!

why couldn't TVR buy in the Ford lump too and make another Griff/Chim stylee model ( without the crappy Ford gearbox tho ) ? ? ? ?, I'm struggling to see what I could buy next from TVR as I want preferably a soft-top but with a BIG V8....

You're joking right? 1350KG?!?!? Only if the supercharger weighs 305KG. According to Christof's site the std 440 weighs 1045kg. Want to do the math again? If it weighs 1100KG then that's still 500/tonne....then add Nitrous

Dunno really.

The bespoke build and the 1 per month restriction of the Typhon does at least give them a fighting chance of putting a car together properly for once.

On that basis I think the TVR.

911 GT3 RS is probably the best choice in that category IMHO though...

OK, but having had 2 TVRs that weigh alot more than the maker claimed (and produced alot less power than they claimed too) I'd be taking some of this with a pinch of salt. Besides at least we know that the Ford lump will take the nitrous without expiring prematurely!
Oh, and the MG can be tuned to 765bhp without nitrous, so thats 463bhp/tonne.. I still think they are both awesome achievements - especially the TVR, but I'm just not prepared to join the silly MG bashing that goes on on this site. They ARE trying to give us stuff we want FFS!
