If the roof is up and I travel along rough road I get a rumbling noise from the back. Is this the diff moving?

When the roof is down, I don't hear it. So could it be something to do with the struts or roof? Maybe I just can't hear it over the exhaust note but I have listened very hard.

The diff mounting bushes are prone to wear from memory I think there is one at the front which can be changed in around an hour but the ones on the rear are not so easy as the diff has to be dropped , it is worth getting thses checked out as the damage these can do if left far exceeds the prevention.

My diff on my 94 Chimaera is a little noisy. Some rumbles and whinning at certain speeds - however spoken to several people and they indicate that unless it does it at all speeds there is nothing to worry about.

The early diffs are noisier (incomparison) than the later ones - be careful as I have heard bad things about blown diffs, but in general dont forget that there is little more than lump of plastic between you and the suspension / diff.....

Cheers,

Paul

Rumbling can also be wheel bearings.
