Door locks making creaking sound
Discussion
I've adjusted a door striker and now I'm getting a terrible creaking noise over rough road.
I think i've pinned it down to the door locks operating. How can I explain it - like solenoids being powered on/off very quickly, so not actually going far enough to open the doors. I think it's the doors because...
1. the sound stops if I open a door while moving
2. if I lock the car while moving it unlocks itself every time the creaking starts.
Could it be the striker adjustment causing this (big coincidence) or are the solenoids about to go? Anybody experienced this?
Thanks for any replys
Could it be that when you moved the door catch, the door position when closed has moved slightly. The reason this could make a diffrence is that low down on the sill in the door shut is the door switch which is connected to the door lock solenoids. Moving the door could have moved the switches contact point on the door (sometimes there is a rubber pad stock to the door) so the switch is not being pushed in enough to complete the electrical circuit properly
Nice one JFF, spot on, why didn't I think of that!
I adjusted the striker because the door didn't always close first time. The position of the door was subsequently 1mm or so further away from the door switch and as the door moved slighlty on bumpy roads it must have been operating the switch.
I'll have to adjust the striker again but this time I'll get a bigger piece of rubber between the sill and switch.
Thanks JFF
