I have a number of little turrets appear in my front lawn, which on closer inspection are being frequented by ground nesting bees. Marvellous. There are now about 20 little holes over a 1 metre squared patch, and while they are not doing me any harm the idea of having them there isn't great (plus the neighbours kids play out in the street and I'm not sure it's too clever). Mowing the lawn is now a bit of a mission as the bees get understandably vexed at this and then decide to come out to play. I've resolved this by squashing the turrets before mowing so the blades don't blow into the holes - but this isn't a hugely practical thing to keep doing, and the wildlife brigade would probably string me up and flog me for it.

They are (touch wood) not proving to be a nuisance and come and go without fuss while doing their normal bee routines (whatever that might be). I have no compulsion to kill them, or do them any harm, but how on earth do I remove them?

The last thing I want is some underground bee metropolis in my front garden.

Make sure they're not bumblebees. Ground nesting, can live for 20 years, and if you kill one it's a £100k fine....

Same level on the endangered lists as black rhinos!

If you have got a few in your garden, I'm sure that there will be people more than willing to remove and rehome them.
