google does a good free one with their 'google toolbar'.

But beware - some www sites will suddenly pause / run very slowly at random periods whilst they try and open pop-ups (hotmail is a bad one for this)

Do make sure to grapple with Google Toolbar's options and *turn off* anything to do with PageRank. Unless you want the toolbar reporting your browsing back to Google, that is...

A warning:

I have spent ALL weekend trying to get rid of pop-ups and "hidden" explorer windows.

Ad-aware is the best to do this BUT make sure that you have ALL XP security patches installed AND that you are running a good Anti Virus/internet security package such as Norton AV/Firewall.

There are vulnerabilities in the basic unpathed XP that allow websites to install script on you machine that visit all sorts of unsavoury websites when you are online. This happens in the background and is to boost there ratings.

Beware! It has take me AGES to cleanse thes TROJANS from my m/c.
