Just wondering if anyone has any tried and tested means of deodourising a house that's previously been smoked in? A house I'm looking to rent has been smoked in at some point, its not overpowering with nicotine stains on the windows or anything, just a bit of a lingering only just noticeable smell, but its there never the less.

Before I move in I was thinking steam clean the carpets, and I've been told bicarb of soda, cornflour and essential oils, sprinkle on and vacuum off the next day like the old shake n vac!

Iain

The previous owner of our house had two large dogs. It was only after we replaced all the carpets did we get rid of doggy odour.

Living room of a house we moved into had been smoked in extensively. Carpet and underlay ripped out, ceiling cleaned with a mop and sugar soap, the smell did not subside until all the wallpaper was removed too.

good luck biggrin

Fair enough, thankfully we'll be spending most of our time in the garage so it shouldn't be an issue. Not ideal but its not going to put me off the place seeing as it has nearly a double length garage and carport biggrin

The letting agent rang me today saying that we can move in 1st August subject to there being no nasties in the credit and previous letting agent references bounce
