E46 M3 - Startup woes

Just bought an M3 E46 2003.
When we viewed it, the car had been sat for a week or two and when it fired up, it sounded as though it was missing. The engine management light was on.
I stopped it, after 30 secs, and restarted, the car was fine. Drove it for 5/6 miles and stopped and started at least a dozen times! it never repeated the issue.

Any ideas?
The sales guy was adamant that it was just a case of it being sat. But I always feared the worst.

Car checks out, with full BMW Service history and only 2 owners. It is mint, throughout, but the engine light scared me a bit. Engine bay is mint, all original and well maintained.

E46 M3's always sound rough on start up.

If light has gone off and stayed off, I wouldn't worry.

You could always ask the garage to clear the fault log for you.
