I am thinking of replacing the standard illuminated leather M3 gear knob on my E46 M3 with a short shift gear knob and I am wondering if this would noticably improve gear changes? Does anyone have any advice or experience of doing this and whether it is worth it?

If so then i'd like to replace the current leather one with a genuine M3 chrome shift and illuminated if at all possible (with the subtle lighting on the standard leather gear knob - nothing gaudy or pikey though!) Does anyone know whether an illuminated 6-speed M3 short shift gear knob exists in chrome/ alluminium?

Thanks,

tnb

I thought short shift kits replaced the whole linkage not the gear knob.
