Hi all,
having a few probs! Ive setup a network with 2 pcs running XP Pro. The 2 pcs are connected through a hub and that works fine, I can share files etc. The main pc has NTL BBand on it, thats on another LAN (USB to Fast Ethernet Adaptor) and it works fine on the main pc, but the other one will not go online. The other PC can see the connection and its under the Internet Gateway heading, but I carnt get it to go online! Its setup as sharing etc, please help,
Phil

Check that the second PC is getting an IP address assigned by DHCP not Automatic Private Address.

In the house we've got a 4 PC wireless network running an NTL line. Run the install for the NTL connection on the second pc (Like you did on the first pc) as far it will go before you have to register it. That seemed to work for me.

Start/ Connect To/ Show All Connections

Then just click on the LAN connection and a "details" box will appear in the bottom left handside.

They both need to be DCHP.

What you need to do is right click on the connection.
Go to properties.
In the general tab there is a box which shows what the connection uses.
In there is tick box called Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Unclick it and press okay.
Then go back into it a reclick it. Press okay
You will then need to reboot the computer and it should then pick up the IP address it needs

Right, have tried that and now main computors local network says mannually configured and the bband says assigned by DHCP. And the other pc says DHCP on the local network and has nothing written down for the internet gateway, is that OK?

I didnt go for a wireless network as I thought this way would be easy, getting the cables in whilst decorating was the easy bit though, great to get it working though, thanks again,
