Try bypassing your ADSL filter for a bit. I had an issue where I could not send or receive SMS messages on my landline after a lightning strike in the village. (Broadband/landline connection was still OK)

Apparently these are very susceptible to voltage spikes I found out later. New (surge protected) filter cured the issue.

Thanks 750 , but today I spent a bit of time trying to work it out , the BT master socket with its adsl connection and phone socket works fine...(hence me being able to send this )none of the other extension sockets work . If I plug a phone into any of these others it doesnt work.. but...when I lift the receiver it rings the phone thats plugged into the BT master socket ..a contiuous ring ,all this makes me think that its a wiring or connection fault within the house .Can any of you lot give me any pointers on tracking down this sort of thing . Cheers All.

try taking the adsl filter out ,these can go faulty shorting out the voice side of the circuit but leaving the dsl working ,otherwise sounds like a short on your internal wiring between 1 leg of the line and the bell circuit .
