Hello

Came to my camera (Nikon D40) this evening in preparation for a road trip this weekend to find that the SD card door has opened in its protective bag and appears to have snapped at the hinge.

Does anyone know where I may be able to source a new SD card slot door cover?

Alternatively I could use this as an excuse to upgrade to a new DSLR (not the cleverest of options)

Thanks

If it was me I'd try ringing Nikon UK or one or their authorised repair centres and see if they can give/sell you the part.

Short term: Gaffa tape...

If it's working fine, dont fix it

Long term, buy a more robust body.

ETA ...as long as I'm not misquoted wink

It's not worth the claim on the insurance to be honest, at £250 new and an excess to consider, I'd go the route of repairing it

I've used Nikon's repair centre and it's pretty slick. You'll be without your camera for about 2-3 weeks. You send it in with a parts request form, they email you a quote, if you want to accept it you can do it online, they do the repair and email you for payment. As soon as payment is received then they ship back. It's all in a neat web console. I wouldnt have thought it would cost a lot, but if you send it off you can decline the estimate and they'll return it NBD

I snapped the card door off my EOS 10d at Le Mans last year. Gaffa tape patched it up for the short term, I superglued it when I got home and it's still good over a year later

Well considering it is non-essential to the camera and it is a relatively cheap unit I think I will go down the duck tape route for now. When and if it becomes an issue I shall use it as an excuse to sell on and upgrade.

Thanks for the help.

i doubt very much if they will , you need to be an authorised repair centre to be able order the part in the first place ,so you will need to take it to your local camera shop who will arrange a quote to repair smile
