Wondering if anyone could help with this?

I have a 2002 Mini One and recently I had the alternator belt changed due to it making some noise from cold. The noise stopped for about 2 weeks then the noise came back again. I was advised it could be the belt tensioner. I purchased a tensioner and had it professionally fitted by the VW garage I work for. Now the noise is 100% worse from cold and now the squeeling gets louder as I rev the engine. It only lasts for about 1 minute but im stumped as to what it could be? It wouldnt be a crank pulled or waterpump maybe?

Cheers!

This sounds like it could be the same problem i had recently with my Mini. Mine is an 05 Cooper S and i changed the alternator belt, but about a week later it started making this horrendous squeeling noise from the belt area when you rev the engine. My mate is a BMW and Mini technician so he looked at it and thought it could possibly be the belt tensioner, but when he stripped it down, it was actually the crank pulley. It uses a block of rubber to stop vibration, but the rubber had split in 2 so the crank pulley was actually rubbing on the timing case and gradually wearing through it! If i had carried on driving much more i would have needed a new timing cover as well, but we got it just in time. The new crank pully was about £170 + vat. Not cheap but its worth checking it out because you dont want to be forking out for a new timing case as well.
