Two steps forward....

Grrrrrr....
Desperately trying to get moved back in our house - have all had enough now!
Bathrooms were finished last week....except....now got 2 holes in the ceiling where shower fanlights have been moved...so they will have to be replastered and painted...
Electrics were supposed to be finished last week....as of yesterday seemed to have developed a fault where everything that was working isn't any longer...and nothing that wasn't before, is either....!!
Sky/tv installers have fitted our main screen, but waiting on brackets for others so they can finish job..
Gas hob just been (finally) connected, after kitchen fitters made adjustments to allow gas connection...
Waiting on chippy to fit skirting boards so that carpet can be fitted...also need some tiling to be finished...
Balcony rails still not fitted as chaps who are supposed to be doing it are "looking for someone with some scaffolding" (!)....
Still waiting for kitchen installers to agree to floor installer replacing boards they damaged....
etc etc etc.....
/rant over...

Just be thankful you didn't have it done by that George Clark off Channel4 otherwise when you do go back home you'll have to put up with being huged by a tearful Geordie.
Does sound like a bit of a nightmare, though there seems alot going on so it's a pretty major job I gather. I've done alot of what you're having done, only I did it myself: Trouble is it took 8 years of minature versions of what you're doing and the associated mess. I don't know which is worse having the whole house trashed for a shorter time (and the cost of paying to have it done) or the continual mess and tedium of DIY. Thank god I'm just about done (for now anyway).
Hope you get back in soon.

I prefer the 'one big mess' approach.
When we bought our current house, we hung onto our temporary rental for three months. It meant we could completely gut the place, replace all heating, electrics, windows, most ceilings, complete conversions and move doors, walls etc without getting any 'stuff' dusty or ruined.

2 storey extension on side and back of house, only 2 rooms and garage left untouched!
I take it back, I haven't done as much as you building wise (only moved a couple of internal walls around). We thought we'd made a good decision when we bought it, to save about £15k on similar, but 'finished' houses on the same road. We figured that we didn't like the other houses decor choices anyway, so a year or so of DIY would have it how we really wanted it.
8 years later it is a very pleasant home, but in the meantime my RS2000 has sat in the garage waiting for me to freshen it up and puit an MOT on it. All this DIY has worn down my enthusiasm so the RS is progressing very slowly....
I don't know if it's because I did the work, or that I'm just glad it's done, but I still get pleasure out of going into the finshed rooms and remembering what they were like when we moved in. I hope you get the same kick out your renovations/extension as me when it's all done....then the pain will be worth it.

I make that 7 trades or more you're relying on to get the job done
May the Lord have mercy on yoursoul building work.
This is why I try and DIY as much as possible. Then the management can chew my ear off instead of wasting more money on phone bills. Of course the slight delays you're experiencing pale into insignificance compared to my 'progress'. Must go, I think she's made another list...

That's what does it for me too - taking a cr p on a toilet I fitted, in a room I 'made'. Good feeling. Eventually
