in our chimney. I tried smoking them out but they just came back a few days later. What's the best way to get rid of them?

Actually I don't think they are wasps, the stripes are brown rather than yellow. I'm not entirely sure what they are - they look a bit like honey bees.

No no no no no.

Wasps, yes. Kill the bees and we're in a whole world of sh*t.

It won't be long for the human race to follow the extinction of bees and other insects.
Shame for the bees, but I doubt if humans would be missed.

I don't know how high up the chimney it is. I just know that our living room has got hundreds of the buggers in it and there's a hell of a buzzing noise coming from the chimney. I'll ligth another fire there and keep it burning all day; see if they get the message. Otherwise I guess it's climb to the top and chuck some nasty powder down (preferably after blocking up the fire place hehe ).

Hire a chimney sweep but don't tell him about the nest angel

Spray the nest with parrafin and don't use the fire for a while. Parrafin poisons wasp nests very well.

As does petrol and its easy to get, and probably cheaper too.

So pouring petrol down from the top of the chimney sounds like it might work... if it doesn't work with the fire out, maybe I'll try it with the fire lit. hehe

idea

Block the chimney up for the Summer, unblock for the Winter - then no bees get harmed.

Call out a pest disposal company - they get rid for you, after telling you what type of insect it is, and how much it will cost smile

Brown / orange would suggest they were burrowing bees, which are actually quite rare... and don't sting. They tend to hang around for a bit and more on.

If you want rid, get the nest wet and they should move on.

Hard to seal the chimney well enough to stop them getting out and they're noisy buggers. I was hoping that if I smoked them they would just bugger off somewhere else, but so far that hasn't worked.

Like the chap above said, get a sprayer with a long neck and at night douse it in petrol.

Paying someone to do it is just laughable.

Get a man in to do it, it'll cost you about £30 and you know it'll be done properly (and it'll be him that gets stung by angry wasps and not you!).

We had a nest in our roof, a local chap from our village came and did it for £30 with a guarantee that if the first treatment didn't get rid of them then he'd come along and do it again (as many times as it took to get rid of them) for free. Worth every penny if you ask me as it'll save you going out and buying the powder and buggering about up a chimney or up a ladder!

Exactly.

Dont go gleefully throwing chemicals around until you know what you're dealing with, a pest controller should be able to help with that.

If it turns out to be wasps then I suggest napalm, if its Bees a pro maybe able to relocate it.

We used to have lots and lots of species of bees in this country and now we dont.

Save the bees, man.
