Since the lounge is so utterly crap and full of Daily Wail gob-ste these days, I figured it might be best for this topic to be here since I'm after some photography gear.

Does anyone know of any online price check website for Hong Kong like Kelkoo, Price runner, etc....???

I've got a friend heading out there and he's offered to pick up any gear I might want. I need a Manfrotto 486RC ball head and perhaps another lens but I'd like to compare the price to the US where he's also said he can pick up gear for me.....

Cheers,

BB

Companies such as DigitalRev sell loads of gear on ebay, this might give you an idea of the HK price.

For instance, currently the lens I'm looking it is £1100 in the UK, and £740 from Digital Rev. However, it's only £640 in the USA from B&H who I have used before, so I'm personally leaning towards the US option.

Blimey! Not so cheap any more. US B&H definitely has the edge!

I have given many, many £1000's to B&H that I don't want to think about it... Great service every time.

I've bought loads from B&H before so I have no qualms about buying from them, I just need to be prepared for getting stung for tax on the way in.

Also need to check the situation with grey import lens warranties...

Actually, as far as I know, Canon provide international warranties on lenses but not camera bodies so generally speaking you should be ok.

I bought my last lens (17-40mm f/4L), from B&H and I will (eventually), get my 70-200mm f/2.8L IS from there too....it's just taking much much much much longer than expected but I'm patient!!!!

Sigma sell lenses with an international warranty, I've seen a fair bit of evidence to suggest that as long as it's purchased from an authorised Sigma agent, it doesn't matter where in the world you got it.

The key thing being, you have to buy from an authorised Sigma distributor.

see below from sigmas website

"You’d expect the world’s number one independent lens designer and manufacturer to offer you something ‘EX-tra’, and that’s just what we’ve done - extending the traditional one year International Warranty of our world class ‘EX’ lenses by two years Free of charge, to provide Sigma UK customers with an unrivalled Three years of cover in the UK.

Before purchasing your Sigma EX lens, please check with your retailer that the lens has been imported by Sigma Imaging (UK) Ltd. If the lens has not been imported by us, the extended UK warranty will not be available. "

ie if you did not buy it in the uk , you will not get a uk warranty smile

Actually that says you wont get the extended warranty, but nothing about not getting any warranty at all.

I'll risk it anyway, it would have to be an expensive fault to cost more than the £400 I save by buying from the USA!
